Christmas party with the Sports and Health Center in Oldenburg
We are excited to share a fascinating evening at the Sports and Health Center in Oldenburg (https://www.corpus-oldenburg.de/)! Dr. med. Oschkenat, a sports physician and medical director of the center, became aware of us through our article in the NWZ (https://www.nwzonline.de/oldenburg/hilfsprojekt-in-ghana-oldenburger-medizinstudentin-gruendet-verein-fuer-erste-hilfe-kurse_a_4,1,1920938041.html#) and reached out to connect with us.
On December 6th, as part of the Christmas celebration at the Sports and Health Center, where about 200 patients were expected, we had the opportunity to present ourselves and our work. Our initiator Jessica gave a short but impressive presentation about the work of Akwaaba e.V. and introduced the projects we are implementing in Ghana.
Retirees as Part of Our Mission
A particularly beautiful aspect of the evening was the opportunity to inspire retirees to get involved in our work. Many of them expressed a desire to volunteer. Together with the attendees, we brainstormed how their involvement could be realized. The ideas ranged from supporting training sessions and projects to taking on organizational tasks and actively participating in events.
These conversations were inspiring and reminded us once again of the immense potential in collaborating with passionate individuals – regardless of age.
Ideas needed: How can retirees contribute?
We look forward to more suggestions on how we can meaningfully involve retirees in our work. If you have any ideas or are personally interested in collaborating, feel free to get in touch! You can reach us via email at [info@akwaaba-ev.de] or through our social media channels, for example on Instagram at [@akwaaba_e_v].
Thank you to Dr. Oschkenat, Maribel, and Jana.
At this point, we would like to sincerely thank Dr. Oschkenat, his daughter Maribel, and Jana. Maribel helped organize the event with great dedication, and Jana accompanied our presentation with a beautiful piano piece.
Some donations have already come in, which we are very happy about and which help us continue our projects. Thank you to everyone who has supported us!
