Equipping the Kasoa Polyclinic with medical equipment

Kasoa Polyclinic

The Kasoa Polyclinic, a central health facility in a village west of Accra, Ghana, plays an important role in regional medical care. However, there is a lack of urgently needed medical equipment, which makes the staff's work more difficult and affects patient care.

Project history

The project took shape in 2022 when our association founder Jessica Matyssek experienced the difficult conditions during her clinical traineeship on site and recognised the need for modern equipment. In particular, there was a lack of a defibrillator - a life-saving device for emergency care. Initially, equipping the clinic with this device was the main goal, but direct contact with the clinic gave rise to the vision of supporting the polyclinic further. This is how the project developed, which is now a central component of Akwaaba e.V.'s work.

Focus on sustainability

In addition to supplying medical equipment, our focus is on sustainability. During our work on site, we realised that many people cannot afford the necessary treatments, which limits the effectiveness of the care. We therefore expanded the project: in addition to providing equipment, we focus on training staff and educating patients.

By investing in both materials and education, we ensure that the clinic can work effectively not only today, but also in the future. We want the clinic to function independently and sustainably - even when we are not on site. This is the core of our approach: sustainable solutions that go beyond the mere provision of equipment and bring about real, lasting change.

Goal of the project

The original goal of equipping the clinic with a defibrillator has developed into a more comprehensive project. We want to provide the clinic with additional medical equipment and improve healthcare provision in the long term. During our visits to the clinic, we regularly evaluate the needs and look for further opportunities for support.

All news and progress of the project, including the dispatch and handover of the devices, will be published under the ‘News’ category.
