A Gynecological Chair for Ghana
In December 2024, we received a generous donation: A gynecological practice from Baden-Württemberg provided us with a gynecological chair. While this chair no longer meets German standards, it is fully functional and urgently needed in Ghana. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude for the additional donation of a personal scale. This device will be a valuable asset to the daily work at the Kasoa Polyclinic. Particularly helpful is the fact that it is a manually operated scale, making it independent of electricity or digital technology.
The donation came about by a happy coincidence. After our first blog post (LINK, “The first transport to Ghana is on its way,” 31.08.24), the practice reached out to us and offered the chair. We were immediately excited about the opportunity to improve gynecological care on-site with this equipment.
Before accepting the donation, we contacted the Kasoa Polyclinic to ensure that a gynecological chair would actually be useful there. The response was clear: the chair is urgently needed, and the clinic expressed immense gratitude for this valuable support.
A logistical challenge
After the organization and handover in December 2024, however, a major challenge remained: transportation. Without sufficient storage facilities and an appropriate transport company, moving the chair proved difficult. Fortunately, family members of one of our association members agreed to temporarily store the chair in Baden-Württemberg. It stayed there until March 2025.
Thanks to careful organization, the gynecological chair and other donated items were transported to Essen. They are currently being stored there and are expected to begin their journey to Ghana in the next quarter.
Thanks to all supporters
This success would not have been possible without the dedicated support of many people. Our heartfelt thanks go to the gynecological practice in Baden-Württemberg for the generous donation. A special thanks also goes to the family who stored the chair for months and assisted us with loading and transportation.
The handover on-site in Ghana, as well as further updates, will be shared in a future post – stay tuned!
